Office manager exposes a construction site thief after the vendor freaks out on her, using meticulous receipt logs to reveal the truth: ‘It was tens of thousands of dollars in theft’

Office managers don't have calluses on their hands like the tradies, but they have a paper trail, and they're not afraid to use it.

This office manager stepped up into a new position when she applied for a construction company, but still, she didn't realize that the disorderly paperwork also came with its fair share of disorderly vendors, particularly the kind that steal materials right under your nose on the job site.

Being a working woman in a man's world requires a kind of steadfast, meticulous nature to be able to cover your own tracks. Already at a disadvantage, office managers in the construction world are already looked down upon by their field-working labormen, largely because all they do is "sit at a desk all day." So, naturally, the blue-collar boys are just waiting for them to slip up. While office managers may not have callused hands and blisters from their boots, they play a valuable role in the construction business. But that's probably why this long-standing member got peeved at the new office lady; she was too good at her job.

At first, she thought he was simply intimidated by new clerical changes to their invoice scheduling, but after a particularly impolite comment and some detective work into his file, she realized the truth. He was skimming materials off of the job site, lying to their superintendents, and hiding behind cooked books.

It was her duty, no no, her privilege, to cut all ties with this thieving vendor. He refused to work with a woman in the office, but she refused to ever contact a thieving vendor again, quickly finding his replacement and deleting his number from company files. Good luck finding future business when you've tarnished an already waning reputation.

Construction is hard work, so it's understandable that tensions flare when money matters come up, but that's why you hire a meticulous office manager: To handle all of the financiare drama before it ever begins.
However, construction workers also hate change. So if they're used to disorganization and mayhem, you better believe they're going to dig their heels in when someone competent comes 'round the office. And that's where this woman's office managing experience started to go downhill…
